Time to back ‘Keep BiK Fair’

With the Autumn Budget approaching on 28 October, BVRLA members and their customers still have time to write to their MP and support the association's call for long-term certainty on company car tax.

The BVRLA is calling on the Government to hold Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax for electric cars at 9% in 2030/31 and 2031/32, while protecting the salary sacrifice rules that have helped make EVs accessible to more drivers.

For drivers choosing vehicles now, the lack of certainty on rates beyond 2029/30 means a typical three or four-year lease can extend beyond the period for which their future tax costs are known. Greater foresight would give employees and businesses the confidence to commit to longer-term vehicle decisions.

A template letter has been prepared to make it easy for members, their colleagues and their customers to contact their constituency MP. It explains the impact from a driver's perspective and asks MPs to raise the issue with HM Treasury ahead of the Budget.

Keeping BiK fair is one of five priorities being raised through the BVRLA's Budget campaign, alongside eVED, tax treatment for older EVs and Capital Allowances.

Members are encouraged to share the template with colleagues, customers and drivers who may want to add their voice ahead of 28 October.
