Warburton Bridge moves to barrierless tolling

Members are advised that the Warburton Bridge toll crossing has now moved to a barrierless payment system, following a similar approach to that adopted by the Humber Bridge and Tyne Tunnel.

Drivers using the crossing are required to pay the toll online by midnight on the day of travel. Where payment is not made, an unpaid toll notification will be issued to the vehicle's registered keeper.

Unlike some road user charging schemes, unpaid toll notifications issued by Warburton Bridge cannot be transferred to a vehicle hirer or lessee. As a result, rental and leasing companies receiving notifications as the registered keeper will need to settle the charge and recover the cost from the customer where permitted under their contractual arrangements.

Customers wishing to challenge an unpaid toll notification must do so directly with Warburton Bridge using the enquiry process available on its website. Members may also wish to review the operator's FAQs, which confirm that liability for unpaid toll notifications cannot be transferred by rental or leasing companies.

Further information is available via the Warburton Bridge website.
