The Government has published its response to the consultation on mandating vehicle safety technologies in Great Britain type approval, confirming it will proceed with introducing a package of 18 proven vehicle safety technologies.
The response recognises concerns raised about the ongoing maintenance of these systems once fitted. Many respondents, including the BVRLA, supported using existing compliance measures, such as the MOT and software updates, rather than creating a separate enforcement regime. The BVRLA also used its response to highlight the need for wider reform of the current MOT system.
The Government said it will proceed with the proposed technologies, while allowing additional time for manufacturers to comply. It also confirmed it will continue to monitor how the technologies perform in use and consider whether further policy action is needed.
