BVRLA members that bought new vehicles between 2006 and 2015 could be eligible for compensation following final court approval of a £55.87 million distribution plan relating to historic vehicle delivery charges.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal has approved the plan to distribute compensation to consumers and businesses following legal action against international shipping companies over charges for transporting new cars and vans to the UK.
The claims process is expected to be particularly straightforward for businesses registered on the DVLA Fleet database. When making a claim, these businesses will automatically be presented with the total number of eligible vehicles identified through DVLA data and the associated compensation amount.
Compensation starts at £25 for the first eligible vehicle, with additional payments for subsequent vehicles. The scheme covers eligible new vehicles bought during the relevant period, with distribution expected to begin later this year.
Members that believe they may be eligible can check their position and register ahead of the claims process opening.
The BVRLA is working with those administering the scheme to understand the process for fleet businesses and will share further information with members as the distribution gets underway.
