Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband has re-iterated plans to make electric vehicle charging more accessible. Miliband gave a speech today (21 April) in a National Growth Debate in Westminster and talked about a wider commitment to accelerate the UK’s transition to clean energy.
With a view to improving access to charging infrastructure at home, particularly for drivers without off-street parking, the Government is looking at measures to make it easier to install EV chargers for renters, flat-dwellers and households without a driveway. These groups that have traditionally faced the greatest challenges in switching to EVs.
The BVRLA’s Chief Executive Toby Poston and Head of Decarbonisation and Future Mobility Catherine Bowen are due to meet with the newly appointed independent chair of the Cost of Charging Review this month. They will put the case that for many BVRLA members and their customers, improved access to affordable, reliable and convenient charging remains a critical enabler of EV uptake.
