The Government has completed the latest round of ministerial appointments, confirming several junior ministers whose portfolios will be of particular importance to the vehicle rental and leasing sector.
At the Department for Transport, Simon Lightwood MP has been appointed as the minister responsible for decarbonisation, with responsibility for issues including the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate and electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED). Justin Madders MP becomes Roads Minister, taking responsibility for vehicle standards, motoring agencies, artificial intelligence and technology. Kier Mather MP remains within the department, focusing on aviation, where the BVRLA will continue to work closely with him on issues affecting the rental sector. The association is writing to the new ministers to introduce the BVRLA and discuss the priorities facing members.
Mr Madders represents a constituency with a significant automotive manufacturing presence, giving him an existing understanding of some of the issues facing the sector.
At HM Treasury, The Rt Hon James Murray MP has been appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury with responsibility for tax. The BVRLA will engage with him ahead of the Autumn Budget to highlight the tax and financial issues affecting the vehicle rental and leasing sector.
At the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Katie White MP has been appointed Minister of State with responsibility for electric vehicles, the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The BVRLA will also be engaging with her on the key policy issues affecting members.
Members can support the association's engagement with policymakers through the Industry Champions programme. Opportunities include hosting constituency visits by MPs, taking part in meetings and engagement events, and writing to local MPs on issues affecting the sector.
