The new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has begun appointing his ministerial team, with Cabinet positions now confirmed and further departmental appointments expected in the coming days.
Of particular relevance to the BVRLA and its members, the early appointments include John Healey MP as Chancellor and Miatta Fahnbulleh MP as Secretary of State for Energy. Heidi Alexander MP retains the position as Secretary of State for Transport, while Jonathan Reynolds MP has been reappointed as Secretary of State for Business and Trade, providing a degree of continuity across two departments central to the association's policy work. The BVRLA will be writing to the Chancellor and the Transport Secretary to congratulate them on their appointments and discuss the priorities for the new Government.
At the time of publication, the full list of Ministers of State and Parliamentary Under-Secretaries has not been confirmed. The BVRLA has worked closely with Kier Mather MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation, and looks forward to continuing its constructive engagement with ministers as responsibilities are confirmed under the new administration.
The association will continue to engage with ministers on issues including the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, motoring taxation, charging infrastructure, consumer credit legislation and fleet decarbonisation. With the new Government expected to place a strong emphasis on UK industry and regional growth, the BVRLA looks forward to demonstrating the important role the rental and leasing sector can play in supporting these priorities.
