Last year, the Advisory Electric Rate (AER) for business travel reimbursement was split to acknowledge the cost gap between the public and private electric vehicle charging networks. Rates are reviewed quarterly, with the latest figures coming into effect at the end of the week.
From 01 March, the AERs for fully electric cars will be:
- 7p per mile for home charging
- 15p per mile for public charging (increased by 1ppm).
The AER falls under the same review cycle as the Advisory Fuel Rates (AFR), which will see small changes on LPG rates implemented from 01 March.
All other rates remain the same and can be found via the gov.uk resource.
Since first issued last year, the separate AERs for public charging and home charging of EVs used for business travel caused some confusion with interpretation of how to apply the new rate. HMRC issued guidance, more information can be found on the BVRLA website: AER for business travel reimbursement.
