BVRLA members have another opportunity to discuss the proposed introduction of electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) directly with HM Treasury and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), at an online workshop on Thursday 5 November at 3pm.
The session follows earlier engagement with members and will focus on the practical implications of the proposed new tax, currently scheduled for introduction in April 2028.
Representatives from HM Treasury and DVLA will discuss implementation plans and gather industry feedback, giving members an opportunity to raise operational questions, highlight potential challenges and share their views on how the proposed system could work in practice.
The BVRLA has consistently raised concerns about the timing and impact of eVED, particularly for businesses managing large vehicle fleets. Member input will help inform the association's ongoing engagement with Government as preparations for the proposed tax continue.
Register for the eVED workshop on Thursday 5 November at 3pm.
DVLA seeks fleet views on eVED
In tandem with the workshop engagement, the DVLA is inviting fleet operators to complete a survey to help inform the development of its new Fleet Management Service and understand the practical challenges businesses may face when eVED is introduced.
The proposed service will allow businesses to license vehicles individually or in bulk and top up mileage during the licensing period. The survey covers areas including how businesses capture vehicle mileage, manage de-fleeting and make payments.
All members are strongly encouraged to complete the survey as soon as possible, ahead of the closing date of Friday 20 November. Members should provide as much practical detail as possible, using the free-text boxes to explain their processes and any assumptions. For example, when answering questions about mileage readings, members can specify how frequently these are collected. When providing fleet sizes, it may also be helpful to distinguish between electric and plug-in hybrid cars.
The survey provides an opportunity to highlight the operational challenges of implementing eVED and help the DVLA understand what fleet operators will need from the new system.
