Members can now access a self-assessment checklist to help them prepare for their rental inspection, or to conduct an ad hoc check in between formal visits taking place.
The purpose of the BVRLA's governance programme is to support members in operating to the best standards in order to support their business commercially and ensure great experiences for their customers.
A BVRLA inspection is fundamental to helping members comply with the Rental Code of Conduct, promoting checks to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and presented to customers in a condition that reflects industry best practice, as well as checking that a clear documentation process and high communication standards are maintained between the rental provider and customer.
Members who are due to receive a BVRLA Rental inspection in 2026 will have been contacted directly by the BVRLA compliance team and can expect to hear from The AA to get a date secured for their inspection.
This new checklist document is a tool to sense check areas members may want to review either between inspections or to prepare for an inspection that is upcoming. It is readily available to members now and will be shared at the time of an inspection being booked too.
The checklist covers:
- Business Premises
- Staff Training
- Rental Vehicle Security Scheme (RVSS) and Security Plan
- Business Documentation
- Vehicle Checks
- Vehicle Maintenance.
