The Department for Transport has launched a new national campaign, ‘Get that electric feeling,’ aimed at increasing awareness of the potential cost savings and practical benefits of switching to electric cars.
The campaign encourages drivers to consider an EV when purchasing their next car and highlights a combination of purchase incentives, running cost savings and charging availability.
Key messages within the campaign include:
- Purchase incentives: Drivers can currently access discounts of up to £3,750 on new electric vehicles through the Government’s Electric Car Grant. More than 50,000 drivers have already used the scheme.
- Running cost savings: The campaign highlights potential savings of up to £1,400 per year through lower fuel and maintenance costs compared with petrol or diesel vehicles.
- Charging infrastructure: Drivers are signposted to the UK’s existing network of more than 87,000 public charge points, with further expansion planned. The Government has committed to supporting the rollout of an additional 100,000 local public chargers in the coming years.
- Home charging support: Alongside public charging investment, funding and planning reforms are intended to make it easier for households without off-street parking to install home charging solutions.
The BVRLA has called for the Government to develop a campaign of this type for a sustained period. Representatives from the team have also been involved in the communications working group to help steer some of the core messages and highlight where barriers to adoption are being seen by BVRLA members.
The new campaign is being delivered across a wide range of channels, including television, radio, digital platforms, social media and out-of-home advertising at locations such as petrol stations, shopping centres and motorway service areas.
There are multiple partnership opportunities available as part of the campaign, and wider areas in which members can support if they wish to. Contact [email protected] for more information.
