From April, all zero-emission vehicles that are valued between £40,000 and £50,000 will no longer need to pay the Expensive Car Supplement in years 2 to 7. The BVRLA has received further clarity on non-bulk renewals.
If a member is taxing a zero-emission vehicle in March for a renewal in April 2026, they will benefit from the change in threshold to the Expensive Car Supplement, which comes into effect from 1 April.
Also, unless the V5 (vehicle registration document) is suppressed, owners will be receiving a new version of the V5 which will no longer show that the vehicle is subject to the Expensive Car Supplement.
Updated guidance: VED changes - Expensive Car Supplement for EVs.
Information issued in January: Clarity on Expensive Car Supplement.
