The DVLA has delayed the project for integrating electric vehicles into the BERT system for taxing purposes. The change was confirmed to the BVRLA by the authority’s technical team, citing the prioritisation of mandatory legislative work as the reason behind the delay.
The functionality was originally promised for the summer, although the reprioritisation means members will not be able to tax electric vehicles electronically until February 2026.
The BVRLA’s Chief Executive Toby Poston is scheduled to meet the DVLA’s CEO, Tim Moss in early October. Toby will be sharing members’ frustrations with Tim along with looking for a firm commitment from the DVLA on a host of improvements the association has been waiting for. These improvements aim to make for easier and more effective management of fleets and reduction of administrative burden. This includes numerous bulk services and the removal of cheques being used for VED refunds.
