BVRLA summer campaign to support Used EV demand

The association will be working with members and industry stakeholders this summer to encourage more motorists to consider used electric vehicles.

The external communications campaign will run in parallel to the BVRLA’s ongoing policy and public affairs work that is highlighting the challenges within the market and sharing potential solutions to bring the stability it requires. One of the challenges the sector is grappling with is the gap between high supply of used EVs, and the demand for them, which is growing at a slower rate.

Latest figures from Autotrader show that last month saw average values of used electric vehicles remain flat. This positive sign follows 40 consecutive months of values falling and it is yet to be seen if it is indicative of a long-term stabilisation of the market.

The topic was also subject to a recent question in Parliament. Shivani Raja, MP for Leicester East asked the government what assessment the government has made of how residual value trends are impacting vehicle leasing and rental. In response, Keir Mather, Minister for Decarbonisation acknowledged that electric cars depreciate at a greater rate than their petrol or diesel equivalents, before underlining the government’s commitment to continue working closely with industry including the BVRLA.

Targeted media activity through the summer will focus on positive examples where households and fleets have adopted used electric vehicles, seeking to overcome some of the common misconceptions around vehicle performance, suitability and cost.

It will culminate with a return of the #UsedEVWeek activity first delivered in October 2025. BVRLA members and industry stakeholders are invited to participate through news, commentary and sustained engagement on the topic. More details will follow.

Members interested in participating in the campaign are invited to email Adam Forshaw ([email protected]). Opportunities to get involved may include providing case studies, research findings or spokespeople, with no financial commitment required.
