Drivers are expected to make around 20 million leisure trips over the late August bank holiday weekend, with the RAC predicting the busiest period on major roads since it began tracking bank holiday journeys in 2015.
The heaviest traffic is expected on Friday 28 August, when around 4.1 million journeys are planned. A further 3.8 million trips are expected on Saturday, 3.1 million on Sunday and 3.4 million on bank holiday Monday, with another 5.5 million journeys planned by drivers who have yet to decide when they will travel.
With roads expected to be particularly busy, members should encourage customers to carry out basic vehicle checks before setting off, including checking oil and coolant levels and ensuring tyres are in good condition and correctly inflated.
Customers should also be reminded to take notice of any dashboard warning lights or existing vehicle issues and contact their rental or leasing provider if they have any concerns. Identifying a potential problem before a journey can help reduce the risk of breakdowns and disruption during a busy weekend.
