The Welsh Government has launched a consultation on the introduction of Clean Air Zones (CAZs) in areas with poor air quality.
The Welsh Government has launched a consultation on the introduction of Clean Air Zones (CAZs) in areas with poor air quality. These CAZs would be similar to those currently being developed for Nottingham, Leeds, Derby, Birmingham and Southampton, where local authorities will seek to restrict the most polluting vans and lorries from entering these areas by charging for access.
At present, only Cardiff City Council and Caerphilly County Borough Council have been directly mandated by Westminster to consider a CAZ. Through this new consultation the Welsh Government can consider whether any other local authorities in Wales should implement similar schemes.
The BVRLA has been in regular contact with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which has overseen the plans being developed in England. Earlier this year the association also co-hosted a series of regional roundtables alongside the Energy Saving Trust, to discuss these plans in more detail with affected businesses and local authority representatives.
This consultation closes on Tuesday 19th June 2018 and the BVRLA will be submitting a response.
