Sharp increases in Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) announced by the Chancellor last month are expected to have a notable impact on the rental sector. Having targeted non-electric vehicles with high increases from April 2025, the revised VED rates were discussed as part of the BBC’s Wake Up to Money radio show last week.
Gary Smith, MD of Europcar UK, and board member for the BVRLA, took part in a short interview in which the high costs set to be faced by rental operators and their customers were laid bare.
Members can listen back to the BBC’s ‘Wake Up to Money’ (from 38:41 in) show from Radio 5 Live now.
The association is seeking input from rental members to understand the expected impact of the VED changes. Any subsequent activity will be discussed with the rental committee and communicated to members as appropriate.
Members are invited to share their views with the BVRLA’s head of communications, Adam Forshaw ([email protected]).
