Trailer Registration Regulations Review

A review has been announced on the regulations that cover the registration scheme for trailers and facilitating registration applications, as well as the issuing of registration documents, the display of registration marks, and other related matters.

To ensure that legislation is fit for purpose and not inadvertently causing unintended consequences, there is a requirement that any changes to legislation should be evaluated within five years of becoming law. Therefore, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is currently carrying out a Post-Implementation Review of the The Trailer Registration Regulations 2018.

As part of this review, the DVLA is seeking information from industry through a survey. The purpose of this survey is to capture stakeholders’ views and experience of the Trailer Regulations so that it can determine their effectiveness. In particular to establish:

  •  the extent to which the changes introduced are achieving their objectives,
  •  the impacts that have resulted,
  •  whether there have been any unintended consequences,
  •  whether improvements can be made to reduce the burden on business.
