Following the conclusion of the recent Supreme Court hearing on motor finance - the ‘Hopcraft appeal’ - the BVRLA’s Legal and Membership Director, Shashi Maharaj, has recorded a podcast highlighting key themes and areas of focus. He attended the hearing online each day and has shared insights most relevant to members.
Irrespective of the judgement, there will be an impact on the industry. The podcast, titled 'Commissions Disclosure: Supreme Court Hearing Explained' not only covers possible outcomes of the hearing but also practical takeaways including being clear to customers on the role of the broker and how it is communicated.
It is expected that the Supreme Court’s judgement will be delivered in the coming weeks. A daily account of the hearing can be found on the BVRLA website: Supreme Court case concludes.
The case and the impacts on BVRLA members will also be discussed as part of the first Compliance Forum of the year, taking place on Wednesday 28 May at the Shoosmiths office in Bow Churchyard, London.
Members already subscribed to the Forum should register delegate names online or by contacting the BVRLA events team. Subscriptions are still available for the 2025 programme, which contains three events through the year - BVRLA Compliance Forum Subscription.
More information can be found, exclusively to BVRLA members, via the Commission Disclosure hub. Questions on Commissions Disclosure can be directed to [email protected].
This podcast episode – and all historic ones – can be found on The Inside Track feed. Users can stream directly via the BVRLA website, or via their preferred podcast provider such as Apple, Spotify, or Amazon.
