Transport Scotland has published its vision for the country’s public electric vehicle charging network. The report seeks to guide action by public, private and third-sector parties to enable the future development of the network.
Focusing on the charging needs of electric cars and electric vans, the vision also outlines the role of electric vehicles in the wider mobility mix, alongside public transport, shared transport, and active travel.
The Vision document will be followed up with an implementation plan over the next year and coincides with £60m previously announced to double the network to reach 6,000 chargepoints between now and 2026. It also ties in with the Government’s wider strategy/vision to reduce reliance on cars for private journeys and see an increase in greater use of shared and public transport and active travel.
While the document does not explicitly reference fleet users, it does acknowledge that:
“It will be important that the right type of charging infrastructure is available in the right number and at the right locations across all areas of Scotland where it is required – making charging as convenient and reliable as possible to meet the needs of local communities, businesses and visitors.”
