National Highways is continuing with its journey planning campaign to help road users stay safe on the UK road network, including tips for drivers on how to prepare for long and unfamiliar journeys.
With winter bringing poorer weather conditions and shorter days, National Highways is focusing on the ‘prepare’ element of the TRIP acronym, with a call to action for drivers to undertake thorough planning to ensure safe journeys.
Visibility and road conditions can also deteriorate rapidly during winter. One in three (30%) UK drivers have been involved in a collision or a near-miss on the motorway or a major A road, and of those, 34% felt that weather conditions were a contributing factor. (Source: Walnut, November 2024).
The TRIP elements of the campaign are:
- Top up – fuel/battery, oil, and screen wash
- Rest – plan your rest stops every two hours
- Inspect – tyre pressure and tread
- Prepare – for all weather conditions.
To help get the message to customers, TRIP Resources and more information are available on the National Highways website.
