For petrol cars with an engine size of 1400cc or less, the rate has increased to 15 pence per mile (ppm), 1401cc to 2000cc has increased to 18ppm, and over 2000cc has increased to 27ppm.

LPG rates have stayed the same except for over 2000cc which has gone up to 17ppm.

The rates for diesel are 14ppm for engine size of 1600cc or less, 17ppm for 1601cc to 2000cc and 22ppm for over 2000cc.

Hybrid cars are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The advisory electricity rate (AER) for fully electric cars remains at 5ppm, which was changed for the last quarter of 2021 from 4p. The BVRLA continues to work with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to highlight the impact of energy prices on EV drivers and call for AER reform.
