MOT changes are hot topic at TOM Forum

The BVRLA’s 2023 events programme kicked off last week with the Technical and Operational Management (TOM) Forum. The digital event included a representative from the Department for Transport (DfT) taking delegates through the potential changes that are coming on the MOT testing regime.

After it was recently announced that the MOT testing regime will be reviewed, the BVRLA secured DfT policy advisor, Matthew Packett to discuss the process and potential changes that are being considered. TOM forum delegates were able to put their questions to Matthew to gain clarity and better understand DfT’s priorities.

The half-day forum also included sessions from Thomas Hudd, National Body Repair Association; Steve Chambers, cap hpi; Chris Cotterill, IMI; and Amanda Brandon, BVRLA.

Topics on the agenda spanned body repairs and the rising cost of parts, how maintenance rates on EVs differ to ICE vehicles, and how recruitment in the sector and a skills shortage are being impacted by the post-pandemic landscape.

The next TOM forum will take place as a physical half-day event on 8 June, before the 2023 programme rounds off with another in-person event in November. Members can secure two spots at both events by taking out a subscription; individual tickets are also available for each event.
