The scheme aims to cut air pollution by charging drivers of the most-polluting vehicles. The ULEZ currently covers an area between the North and South Circular roads but will be extended across the entire capital from 29 August.

The Mayor of London has recently expanded the scheme offering grants of up to £2000 towards the cost of replacing a vehicle that doesn’t comply. Previously only available to Londoners receiving certain benefits, Sadiq Khan has now pledged another £50 million to widen its eligibility. Small businesses will be able to receive £7000 to scrap a non-eligible van (with a limit of three vans per company), with the grant for minibuses rising from £7000 to £9000. The £5000 grant for replacing Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles has been doubled to £10,000.
