Following the resignation of Boris Johnson in July, Liz Truss has been confirmed as the new Prime Minister of the UK, taking on the role immediately. Truss has served as a Member of Parliament since 2010 and previously held high-profile roles across government departments including Environment, Food & Rural Affairs; the Treasury; and Foreign Affairs.
Truss’ first step will be to appoint her Cabinet who will be responsible for the different government departments. Confirmation of those roles is due today ahead of a first new Cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.
It is currently unconfirmed which individuals will take up those roles and what changes they may wish to implement. The BVRLA will update members in due course, with details on what the association is doing in response and the key areas of focus for upcoming campaigns.
The roles that are expected to have a direct impact on BVRLA members include:
- Chancellor of the Exchequer
- Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
- Secretary of State for Transport
- Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
In line with the new Chancellor taking up their role, the BVRLA is again encouraging members to support the ongoing #SeeTheBenefit campaign, which is seeking to secure greater clarity on EV company car tax rates and see the rates kept low for longer.
Members can send a pre-written letter to their local MP to back the campaign via the Company Car page.
