An inquiry led by the House of Commons Transport Select Committee has led to significant reform at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), whose processes and procedures have been changed following the Committee’s recommendations.
The Committee had been conducting an inquiry into the handling of the recall process of Vauxhall Zafira B models, which had been catching fire. Although the investigation is still underway, the Committee has so far concluded that Vauxhall was too slow to begin a full investigation and too quick to attribute them to improper and unauthorised repair.
The Committee also looked at vehicle product safety and the recalls process, making several recommendations which have promoted a response from Government confirming that practices at the DVSA have been changed, or are still under review.
Any members with concerns about the current communication process for vehicle recalls or views on the proposal for an automatic MOT failure should contact BVRLA Legal and Policy Executive Amanda Brandon
