Input is being sought that will help to inform and guide the government in delivering road transport decarbonisation. The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee has launched an inquiry into electric vehicles, with views being accepted from private drivers and companies.
The BVRLA has been heavily involved with the Committee up to now and will continue to engage throughout the full process. Looking at electric vehicle uptake and securing the Net Zero targets, the inquiry will explore the main obstacles and barriers to meeting the 2030 and 2035 phase-out targets.
With a focus on passenger cars, it will explore what steps could be taken by government to make the transition as easy and accessible as possible for consumers and businesses involved in meeting market demand. The inquiry will also assess the costs and benefits of encouraging a greater uptake of EVs.
The call for evidence is available on the Parliament UK website and will close at 5pm on Friday 15 September.
The BVRLA will be utilising its Electric Vehicles Working Group to formulate a response for the Inquiry. Members interested in providing their expertise, knowledge and case studies, and those looking to get involved in the Working Group, can contact BVRLA’s Senior Policy Advisor, Catherine Bowen.
