A number of acts of terrorism took place globally over the festive period, where vehicles were used as a weapon. Some reports highlighted that the vehicle(s) used had been provided by rental firms or via vehicle sharing platforms.
Since 2020, the Government has enlisted the BVRLA as an approved partner to monitor and assess compliance against its Rental Vehicle Security Scheme (RVSS). Participating in the UK’s RVSS forms part of the BVRLA Code of Conduct for rental and commercial vehicle members. The RVSS requires firms to meet a 10-point Code of Practice.
Full details and what it means for BVRLA members are available via the association’s Security and Counter Terrorism webpage.
Even though none of the recent attacks took place in the UK, it is important that members remain aware of, and on top of, their obligations as part of the Rental Vehicle Security Scheme. The association has made several resources and training programmes available to support members, accessible via the Security and Counter Terrorism webpage.
