Expert panel to explore EV skills gap

Aftermarket challenges and the pressing skills shortage in the EV sector will be explored in an expert panel, chaired by Vincent St Claire of Fleet Assist, at the BVRLA’s Fleets in Charge Conference in July.

Vincent will be joined by Hayley Pells of IMI, Jason Cranswick of Norton Way, Paul Binks of European Tyre Enterprises and Jenny Patten of Bosch.

The discussion will cover how the shortage impacts both the new and used car markets, and what steps are being taken to address it while promoting greater diversity in the workforce.

With vehicles becoming increasingly connected and reliant on digital technology, the panel will explore whether this shift presents an opportunity to attract talent from computer sciences and tech backgrounds. Attendees will hear about innovative recruitment strategies, the effectiveness of current training schemes, and whether access to vehicle data could hinder technician development.

The panel will also debate the role of AI in the sector - exploring whether it poses a threat or offers new opportunities to enhance skills and support the industry.

The Conference is taking place on Wednesday 2 July at the QEII Centre in London. Themed ‘Changing Demand or Demanding Change?’, the event will explore the evolving landscape of fleet electrification, addressing both the shifting market forces and the policy interventions shaping the industry’s future.
