Ofgem is carrying out a review which could result in a fairer process being introduced for those investing in the connections needed to install EV charge points.
The BVRLA will be responding to the consultation, which closes on 25 August, and is inviting members to email views to Senior Policy Advisor, Catherine Bowen before Friday 13 August.
The ‘access and forward-looking charges’ consultation is reviewing three key areas:
- distribution connection charging
- the definition and choice of access rights
- transmission charges for small, distributed generators.
The BVRLA welcomes the review having previously raised concerns about the current process, which incurs significant cost to the organisation with requirements that push the local grid infrastructure beyond its capabilities, making the cost-burden inherently unfair.
Any changes introduced following Ofgem’s review will take effect from April 2023.
In the meantime, the BVRLA will continue to push for an affordable and effective public and private fast charging infrastructure.
