The BVRLA has updated the Child Restraints & Seatbelt Laws factsheet to include some advice to rental companies on what to do with child car seats involved in an accident.
Supplying a child car seat or booster seat with a rental vehicle is deemed to be an accessory. The law does not require rental companies to either provide or fit the seat for customers.
However, if you supply these products to your customers, then you should give your customer as much information as you can on how to select the right seat, how the seat is installed and how to secure the child in the seat correctly.
The updated factsheet also includes advice on logging and checking car seats in and out at the beginning and end of a rental.
This is worth a read, especially for daily rental members, as this is likely to be a new topic included in the BVRLA’s 2020 audit programme.
