The results of the inaugural OEM Relationship Survey have been published, reflecting feedback from twenty-six leasing members representing a combined fleet of more than one million cars. BMW led the way, topping more categories than any other manufacturer.
The survey, which was developed and conducted with the assistance of independent research consultants, experteye, ranks 23 leading OEMs based on various criteria:
- Quality of the working relationship
- Vehicle purchasing process
- Products and services
- In-life services
- Electric vehicles
- Financial support
BMW emerged as the frontrunner, securing 14 “Best in Class” scores. Volkswagen followed with seven, and MG with four. Volkswagen notably topped the headline category of ‘Working Relationship,’ narrowly beating Mini and Mazda.
In the ‘Vehicle Purchasing’ category, Audi and Volkswagen tied for first place, both praised for their vehicle logistics and handovers. MG excelled in lead times, achieving the highest ranking in that area.
BMW also led in the ‘Products and Services’ section, with Audi and VW trailing closely. Kia and Volvo received commendations for their performance in this category as well. For ‘In Life Services’, BMW dominated, ranking first in five out of seven subcategories, with Volvo also performing consistently well.
Tesla and Polestar stood out in the ‘Electric Vehicles’ category, reflecting their strong EV product range. However, BMW excelled in EV technical and driver support, securing the top spot again.
"In the automotive world, there are few relationships as important or long-lasting as that between lease companies and OEMs," said BVRLA Chief Executive, Gerry Keaney.
"The pace of technological, regulatory, and market change is relentless and has a significant impact on the entire supply chain. It is vital that we assess that impact and take every opportunity to highlight best practices where they are occurring.
"We congratulate those OEMs our members have recognised for delivering high-quality products and services. We invite all manufacturers to collaborate with us in exploring ways to improve this ‘special relationship.’"
