Advocating for industry at Labour Party Conference

This week the BVRLA has been championing the interests of members at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. Alongside partners the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) and Auto Trader UK, discussions have been taking place with MPs and Conference delegates to educate them on the value of rental and leasing industry, and highlight the challenges it faces.

The Policy and Public Affairs team has been promoting crucial campaigns such as Zero Emission Van Plan and happyEVafter, as well as addressing broader industry challenges. On Monday, the BVRLA, with Energy UK, hosted a successful drop-in session to highlight the vital role of vehicle rental and the unique challenges faced by this sector. The association was encouraged by the level of support from stakeholders, with Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport, joining to share a few words.

Today (24 September) the team met with Lilian Greenwood, Minister for the Future of Roads at the Department for Transport. While visiting the BVRLA stand, Ms Greenwood heard about van decarbonisation challenges, the used BEV market and the unique role that rental plays in the transition to cleaner road transport.

Throughout the week, the team has also met with Ruth Cadbury MP, the new chair of the Transport Select Committee, other Ministers and MPs, industry leaders and stakeholders. The message that used EVs and zero-emission vans need more attention and support is resonating strongly.
