Advisory Fuel Rates from 1 March

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has released the new rates that apply from today (1 March 2022). The previous Advisory Fuel Rates (AFR) can be used for up to one month from this date.

For petrol company cars, the rates for all engine sizes, from below 1400cc to 2000cc and over, remain the same.

It is similar for the rates for diesel; all engine sizes from below 1600cc to 2000cc and over remain the same.

There is one change in the LPG rates, where the rate for vehicles with engine sizes of 1400cc or less goes down from 9p to 8p per mile.

Hybrid cars are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The advisory electricity rate for fully electric cars is 5 pence per mile, which was changed for the last quarter of 2021 from 4p. This followed intensive lobbying of HMRC by the BVRLA and the Association of Fleet Professionals.
