The BVRLA's Leasing Broker Survey report for the half year ending June 2022 shows that the BVRLA broker fleet grew by 2.7% compared to H1 2021, reaching a record 403,780 vehicles. This comprised 302,546 cars and 101,234 vans. New contracts in the 12 months to June 2022 were down in all key sectors compared to the year to June 2021. Personal contract hire bore the brunt of the decline, down 13.6% to 50,814 cars. BCH was down 5%. Contracts for new cars slipped 11.4% to 81,399 in H1 2022 (H1 2021: 91,889). New van contracts were 20.5% down to 25,069 in H1 2022 (H1 2021: 31,546).

Battery electric has overtaken petrol to become the most popular fuel type on the BVRLA’s leasing fleet, according to the association’s latest Leasing Outlook report. Accounting for 32% of new orders*, this is the first time BEVs have been the most popular powertrain, marking a major milestone in the sector’s transition to zero-emission motoring.

The BVRLA's Leasing Broker Survey report for the half year ending December 2021 shows that the car fleet grew 6% year-on-year during 2021 to 298,497. With new car contracts rising by 24% following last year’s decline. Sales reached 96,896, which is 12% higher than the pre-pandemic highs achieved in the second half of 2019. The LCV broker fleet represents 26% of the total broker fleet and grew 3% year on year in 2021. BCH customers represented 67% of the van fleet, while finance lease customers accounted for 25% of the fleet in H2 2021. Demand for BCH is falling though, representing 53% of orders, compared to 59% in H2 2020 and 68% in H2 2019.
