More than half of respondents to a Brake survey have admitted to speeding in an area with a speed limit of 20mph.

The road safety charity’s research found that nearly three quarters (73%) of 25-34 year olds are likely to drive at 25mph or more in a 20 zone, whereas only 45% of 55-64 year olds say they would. Men are also more likely to speed than women, with 61% admitting to going over the limit compared with 43% of women.

The research was published to coincide with the United Nations Global Road Safety Week’s #SlowDown campaign, which aims to increase understanding of the dangers of speed and encourage drivers to slow down to protect road users.
