BVRLA RISC Online database

If you have been refused a rental due to being on the BVRLA RISC Online database, as a data subject you have the right to find out what information is being held about you under the Data Protection Act.

The BVRLA operates a database called RISC which is a tool used by many rental companies, within BVRLA membership, during their renter qualification process. Information contained on RISC is supplied by rental companies where a breach in terms & conditions or inappropriate behaviour indicate a potentially increased risk when renting in the future.

RISC is an informational tool and does not provide any advice to users regarding whether to rent or not. The decision always rests with the rental company themselves, regardless of whether they use RISC or not.

RISC is subject to the Data Protection Act and you are entitled to request a copy of any information held about yourself. We do require a request in writing – an email is sufficient. Emails are to be sent to risc@bvrla.co.uk

Within your request we do require some identifying information, which is used to verify your identity and to ensure we do not give your data to anyone else:

•   Full Name
•   Date of Birth
•   Address
•   Driving Licence Number

If your information is found on our database then we will send a copy of this to you. The copy will show which rental company added your details, when they added your details and why.

If upon receipt of the information you believe the data to be inaccurate, you have the right to appeal to be removed from the system by contacting the rental company directly. A point of contact at the rental company will be provided within the information sent to you.
